The grape industry in Kerikeri has taken off. In Puketotara Road alone there are now 5 small vineyards, within 300 meters of the Fat Pig. These are appointment only vineyards mainly growing single varietal grapes. Rumour has it that there might be a name change to the "New Barrossa Valley Road".
Across the road we have MorePork Vineyard which grows only Pinot Gris. It got it's name due to them having 2 pigs, so they have more pork than us.
Behind MorePork is the Bent Duck Vineyard which grows Chardonnay. So named as the vineyard goes around a stream with a bend in it, & there are ducks in it. However, it might have something to do with the owners also.
Further down the road we have the Hairy Dog growing Syrah and also making Rose. And yes, they have a hairy dog. Chinook estate next to us grows contract Syrah grapes for other wineries, and have just ordered Sav Blanc vines for more plantings.
Further down State High way going south we have Ake Ake & Marsden Estate who both serve fabulous wine & food, and Cottle Hill is the last one as you leave Kerikeri.
With a further 3 more Vineyards coming on-line on State Highway 10 in Kerikeri, in 2010 you can really make a hog of yourself for the day.
